This pinch tool is needed for extinguishing taper type of candles - thin and tall with a small size wax pool. It's not suitable for candles with large diameter, where the molten wax pool is big enouph the candle to be extinguished by dipping the wick.
Just pinch out the top of the burning wick and the candle will be extinguished, the flame will dissapear without creating any smoke or sparkles.
